As noted in TIO last month, the third annual World Interfaith Harmony Week found life in thousands of settings around the world. The Southern California Parliament of Religions (or, more formally, SCCPRW, the Southern California Committee for a Parliament of the World’s Religions) used this year’s international celebration to upend a false stereotype about Spanish-speaking Americans. That misconception? That religiously, Latinos are mostly Catholics, with a few evangelical Protestants and a few still practicing Indigenous traditions.
This year on February 10, Celebración Latino-Yanqui unpacked the rich but largely invisible religious diversity in the Latino community. Listen to the video report and have your eyes opened. It is hosted by Ruth Broyde Sharon, one of the planners, who also happens to be a TIO Correspondent.
