Europe - Vision of Living Together in Diversity and Harmony

The European Council of Religious Leaders met recently in Sarajevo and have reflected on inclusive citizenship, and issued a statement on living together in diversity and harmony.

Thursday 10 May some 40 participants, from 21 European countries and 10 religions and denominations met in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina for an European Pre-Assembly meeting preparing for the global Religions for Peace IX Assembly under the theme: Welcoming the Other: Action for Human Dignity, Citizens and Shared Wellbeing. Religious leaders, academics, youth and grass root activists focused on how religions can play a positive part in our joint future.

In reflection on the previous ten years, the European Council of Religious Leaders considered their achievements in re-affirming religious condemnations of terror, promoting justice and peaceful coexistence among the diversity of peoples, religions and traditions in Europe.

In their activities of the last decade, the ECRL have delivered statements on culture, society and inter-religious - interfaith relations which have become foundational understandings and aspirations, worldwide. In this regard, the ECRL have rendered service worldwide to the cause of promoting interfaith activity.
