Transformation in judaism and islam

In 2015, the period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (September 16- 21) almost precisely overlaps with the period of the Hajj (September 20 – 25), which culminates in Eid al-Adha on the day after Yom Kippur. A public program at the Graduate Theological Union on Sunday, September 20 will explore many of the shared themes of this season, including repentance, pilgrimage, and sacrifice.
The program will feature a panel and breakout sessions, followed by music and a reception. It will be held at the Easton Center (2401 Ridge Road, Berkeley), beginning at 1:00 pm. The event is free; please register via Facebook if you would like to attend.
Sacred Seasons is presented by the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies (CJS) together with the Center for Islamic Studies (CIS). They are two of the eight affiliated centers of the Graduate Theological Union. CJS is a premier center for the advanced study of Jewish history, literature and culture; CIS similarly generates innovative research and scholarship on Islamic texts and traditions in contemporary contexts. Both reflect the GTU’s commitment to equipping religious leaders for a future of diverse religions and cultures, serving as an educational and theological resource for local communities, the nation, and the world.
